About Me

Jennifer Ugwa is a second-year graduate student focused on investigative and narrative storytelling at the UC Berkeley Graduate School of Journalism. She graduated with a Bachelor’s of Arts in Mass Communication from Nigeria, where she reported extensively on environmental issues, health, business, and women in conflict for regional and international platforms. As a reporter for Oakland North Richmond Confidential, the UC Berkeley journalism school publications, she concentrated on covering transportation, small businesses and how sector policies affect residents. Under the Investigative Reporting Project, as part of her thesis, she is working on an investigation that begins to expose structural, legal, financial, labour and health exploitation in combat sport. Jennifer is passionate about topics that intersect environmental issues and social justice. Currently, she is exploring the effects of AI on the environment and media.

Telling stories that challenge systems and amplify voices.

With about five years of experience in journalism, I have reported from various regions across Africa, documenting stories that often go untold. My investigative work has been published in leading publications and has contributed to policy changes and increased awareness on critical issues affecting communities.

My expertise lies in uncovering overlooked narratives, shaping data into stories, and exploring how media influences social change.
